Albany Law School seeks a full-time or visiting professor to teach bar preparation and academic success courses. Visiting faculty will be eligible to apply for a permanent position to begin academic year 2026-2027. Appointments will be at the rank of assistant, associate, or full professor and may be appointed on a tenure-track or long-term contract, depending on experience. Working as part of a team that includes a Director of Bar Success and Director of Academic Success, the individual will teach and develop academic and bar success programming both in our residential and our flex-JD programs. The individual will work with groups of student mentors and fellows, contribute to programs aimed at enhancing students’ bar readiness, and may assist in the development of a Legal Writing Center. We seek a candidate with a track record of achieving academic and bar passage success goals to enhance our bar success initiatives and enhance our academic success programming. The individual must have experience in academic success or bar success, legal writing, or other law school teaching; demonstrated scholarship or an interest in scholarship in learning theory or academic support; experience in the practice of law. Because Albany Law School has a flex-JD program, evening hours may be required and candidates must be available to teach in person.
As part of our unitary tenure system, tenure-track opportunities are available across all long-term positions. In addition, Albany Law School is poised to begin new programming that will increase online opportunities for our students and our faculty. Applicants should express their potential interest in teaching in an online format, although an applicant’s preference with respect to teaching format will not impact their candidacy.
Qualifications
Candidates are required to have a JD from an ABA-accredited institution. A record of, or potential for, high quality teaching and a commitment to student mentoring and academic success are required. Applicants should have a superior academic record and at least three years of professional experience in practice, in teaching legal research and writing, or the equivalent.
Compensation
The estimated salary range for this position is $90,000-$120,000 per year, plus comprehensive benefits package. Salary will be based on the successful candidate’s relevant experience, knowledge, skills and abilities, and in consideration of internal equity.
