Temporary Bar Success Coach – University of Connecticut School of Law

The Office of Student Affairs at the School of Law is seeking a special payroll, part-time, bar success coach. The initial appointment is for six (6) months, starting in August 2025.  Under the supervision of the Assistant Dean of Students, the bar success coach will work with graduating law students in need of individualized coaching to prepare for success on the bar exam. The bar success coach will provide coaching on issues such as time management and study skills as well as feedback on writing for students enrolled in one of the school’s early bar preparation courses.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Works with the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs and the Assistant Dean of Student Affairs to identify and engage in outreach to students;
  • Provides individualized coaching to identified students on issues related to bar exam success, including time management and study skills;
  • Assists students in developing a bar study plan and creating methodologies for approaching different portions of the bar exam;
  • Provides individualized feedback on writing for students in the early bar preparation courses identified by instructors as needing additional support;
  • Refers students to other student support services such as the Assistant Dean of Students, as appropriate.
  • Performs related duties as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • JD degree.
  • Bar admission.
  • Demonstrated experience advising, counseling, or teaching students.
  • Strong administrative, planning, and organizational skills.
  • Excellent communication skills- both oral and written.
  • Ability to establish rapport with students, faculty, and professional staff.
  • Ability to work independently, as well as part of a cohesive team.
  • Demonstrated ability to critically think, analyze, and problem solve.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience teaching legal writing.
  • Knowledge of the scope and format of the Uniform Bar Exam and the Next Gen Bar Exam.
  • Experience with bar advising.

APPOINTMENT TERMS

This is a temporary, part-time position offering a six-month contract for 15 hours per week, with the possibility of renewal, depending on performance and funding availability. Anticipated start date of August 23, 2025.  The modality of this position is hybrid; while most of the work will be in-person, some hours each week may be remote.  Hourly salary will be $30-40 per hour depending upon level of experience.
