Position Summary
William & Mary Law School is seeking an individual to join the Student Services & Academic Support Unit. Under the direction of the Associate Dean for Student Services & Academic Support, the Senior Assistant Dean will be a key leader in fulfilling all the functions of the office in providing student services and academic support: academic advising, academic support, bar preparation, classroom and exam accommodations, flourishing and belonging, student organizational support, and wellness and counseling support. The Senior Assistant Dean will have particular focus on managing and expanding the services offered to students in the areas of academic support and bar preparation.
The successful candidate must have demonstrated experience in providing student services and academic support to law students. Strong communication, a track record of success in legal education or legal practice, and a sensitivity to student needs and the interpersonal skills to work well with students are essential.
Conditions of Employment
The position may require occasional weekend work. This position may require additional hours beyond the typical work week, to include occasional overnight and weekend work as needed to meet the business needs of the operation.
Required Qualifications
- J.D. degree from an ABA accredited law school.
- Bar exam passage and licensure in at least one jurisdiction.
- At least 5 years of experience in legal education or legal practice.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with students, faculty, staff, and other constituent groups.
- Demonstrated ability to function independently and in a team.
- Demonstrated ability to provide rapid and empathetic responses to student inquiries and needs.
- Strong interpersonal and research skills.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience providing bar exam preparation instruction
