The Assistant Director of Student Affairs will provide individualized outreach to the student body on an intentional strategic basis involving emails and follow-up where necessary resulting in face-to-face meetings to check with the student on professional and personal development. The Assistant Director will also serve as a liaison to Student Bar Association (SBA) organization leaders to review needs for events and programing and strategies on recruiting interested students, offering assistance with strategizing around programming, identifying relevant alumni for events, etc.
The individual in this position serves as the primary wellness advisor to students in the JD program, providing situational counseling and referral around mental health and substance use issues to students by appointment and on a drop-in basis, as well as developing programming in the students’ interest. The incumbent will be part of school-wide efforts to provide appropriate advising to students and to acquaint first-year students with the services of the Office of Student Affairs. The incumbent may be called upon to represent the law school on university committees, which focus on various aspects of student services.
The Assistant Director will work with students entitled to receive accommodations under the ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) including intake interviews, accommodations for the academic year and examinations, and assistance in demonstrating accommodation needs for the bar and other licensing examinations. The incumbent is responsible for coordinating with WCL faculty and staff, as necessary, about the implementation of accommodations for those students.

- Juris Doctor degree
- 2-4 years of relevant experience
- Knowledge of the Americans with Disabilities Act (“ADA”) and its amendments, and an understanding and commitment to helping law students successfully navigate law school
- 3-4 years of experience in student affairs, student personnel counseling, wellness, or related field
- Strong interpersonal and communications (oral, written, public speaking) skills.
- Training or experience in counseling in a law school setting

Additional time is spent being available for students when they need help; attending as many student group and law school functions as possible; and assisting other WCL departments in accomplishing their missions.
