Over the years, I have heard several colleagues describe Friday as their administrative day. I found this fascinating because I never seemed to have time for one. I was the sole member of an office that supported 1Ls, 2Ls, 3Ls, alumni, and bar takers, often all at once, I found it difficult to set aside a single day for administrative tasks. The demands of the job and the competing schedules involved made it challenging. Priorities seem to drive what needs to get done administratively.
For some colleagues, the administrative day was a writing day. They spent it reading articles and drafting sections of their next scholarly paper. For others, it was a time for professional development, whether through travel to conferences or online programs. Most of us can carve out a few hours or half a day during the week for these tasks. Few of us can devote significant time to our professional development, growth, and advancement in a meaningful way.
What are you doing, intentionally, to grow professionally?
