UNIVERSITY OF DETROIT MERCY SCHOOL OF LAW is seeking candidates for tenure-track
positions on our faculty, beginning in the Winter of 2027 and the Fall of 2027. All positions are
part of the law school’s unitary tenure track, and we are open to entry-level and lateral applicants.
These opportunities exist in both our Detroit Riverfront campus and our new Online Juris Doctor
(OJD) program. Riverfront campus positions will require the faculty member to teach in-person in
Detroit. OJD positions may require some in-person commitments but will primarily involve
teaching asynchronous online courses. Accordingly, applicants to the OJD program will work
collaboratively with the OJD Director, faculty colleagues, and instructional design professionals
to create engaging and rigorous online learning experiences. We are open to candidates interested
in teaching in either or both programs.
Those teaching in the OJD program may start building courses and teaching as early as Winter
2027, either in a full-time capacity or part-time if they still have commitments elsewhere. Please
indicate in your job application which of our programs are of interest to you. Positions in both our
Riverfront and OJD programs are included in our unitary tenure track system.
Coverage Needs:
We are particularly interested in candidates with experience in online instruction or enthusiasm for
teaching in our OJD program. We are open to candidates who teach courses in any area of the
required curriculum, including, but not limited to:
- Bar Exam Strategies,
- Civil Procedure,
- Comparative Legal Research & Writing in our Dual J.D. Degree Program with the
University of Windsor Faculty of Law (which requires familiarity with both American law
and Canadian law), - Constitutional Law,
- Contracts,
- Criminal Law, and
- Criminal Procedure: Investigations and Adjudications.
Candidate Requirements:
Candidates should have a Juris Doctor degree and should send a current CV or resume, along with
a cover letter expressing their interest and qualifications, to Professor Erin Archerd, Chair of the
Faculty Recruiting Committee, at archerer@udmercy.edu. Candidates may also submit additional
materials such as research statements, prior publications, and teaching evaluations. Applications
will be reviewed immediately and on a rolling basis. We welcome and encourage applications from
women, from members of racial and ethnic minority groups, and from any other candidates who
will further enhance the diversity of our faculty.
